According to The Hollywood Reporter, both regular and Director’s Cut versions of the Watchmen DVD will hit in the U.S. in late July, either on the 21st or 28th.
Release date aside, what is real interesting is that WB will sync “friend” networks on Facebook with the community screening features on Warners’ Blu-ray DVD releases for the Director’s Cut.
This combination of BD-Live and Facebook features will allow fans to join with their friends for community viewings of the movie during which they can share their comments.
In addition, the Blu-ray Director’s Cut will include “Warner Bros. Maximum Movie Mode,” which will allow for a split-screen viewing of Watchmen, showing both the regular version of the film as well as elements of director Zack Snyder’s on-camera commentary.
Regular DVD and Blu-ray versions of the film will be released simultaneously, with no bonus features on the standard disc version, while the Director’s Cut will include a second disc loaded with extras. The standard DVD will sell for $28.98 and the Blu-ray Director’s Cut for $35.99.
Watchmen will be released on digital platforms simultaneously, including On Demand, PPV, Xbox360 and PlayStation 3. The Director’s Cut versions of the film will see same-date release on iTunes and Amazon on Demand.
No mention was made of the so-called “Ultimate Edition” DVD release which is rumored to contain several versions of the film, including one with the animated Black Freighter short spliced into the narritive as well as a score of bonus features.
WatchmenComicMovie.com was able to attain images of the DVD and Blu-ray release’s cover art, however at this time, we are not 100% how official these images are.
