Back in June it was confirmed that the extended Director's Cut of Zack Snyder's Watchmen would still be hitting movie theaters starting on Friday, July 17th, which is tomorrow.
Unfortunately, it would only show in four theaters located in Los Angeles, Dallas, Minneapolis, and New York City. For anyone living in those cities, great news, for everyone else, well, the Blu-Ray hits shelves next Tuesday.
Here are the theaters (and links to buy tickets) for this weekend: Mann Chinese 6 in Los Angeles, Landmark Sunshine 5 in New York, Carmike Apple Valley 15 in Minneapolis, and Rave Hickory Creek 16 in Dallas.
If you intend to see this tasty Director's Cut in theater you better hurry, it will only be shown at those four locations up until July 23rd. Is it possible these theaters may hold over the movie for another week if demand is great enough? Anything is possible, but I wouldn't count on it.
Anyone who lives in the New York Metro area — I'll be at the 2:30PM showing at the Landmark Sunshine 5 on Tuesday the 21st with a bunch of folks. If you're lucky enough to get to that showing, I will be giving out some WatchmenComicMovie.com postcards and maybe some other hard to find Watchmen movie swag to those who can find me.
As for everyone else, I hope you take this opportunity to see Watchmen one more time in theaters, especially since the Director's Cut is Zack Snyder's official version of the film unlike the chopped up version that hit theaters in March to fit onto IMAX projectors.
I've seen all of the new scenes on my preview copy of the Blu-ray and I can tell you first hand that it greatly improves the movie's pacing and exposition — in short it's a way better cut. Now it won't make someone who didn't like the theatrical cut now suddenly like it, but if you liked the theatrical cut, the Director's Cut will likely add a star or two to your opinion.
