Just a few days ago we announced that Glu Mobile will be developing and publishing a Watchmen video game that will be playable on most cell phones.
Now, more details and a few screenshots have been released of the Glu Web site, and I have to say, I’m almost more excited for this game than the high-tech downloadable platform game that's being released as well.
Why? Well, take a look at those screenshots and you’ll see that the mobile game, because it needs to be low-tech to play on your phone, looks really retro — like the Streetfighter arcade game I used to play as a kid in my local pizza parlor.
I guess being that Watchmen is from the 80’s it seems that a game that looks and plays like an 80’s game would just feel more “right” to me. Take a look at the screenshots below and just try to resist getting a retro hard-on.
Pretty sweet, huh? The game allows you the choice of to playing either Nite Owl battling thugs on the streets of New York, or The Comedian cracking some Viet Cong skulls in the jungles of Vietnam. Yes, you heard me right — you get to play The Comedian in Vietnam. Did I already say “sweet?”
The game also boast 17 levels of game play, including sky missions in the Owl Ship, as well as cameos from classic heroes and villains from the Watchmen universe, including Rorschach, Dr. Manhattan and more.
I know, some of you die-hard fans will criticize me for being excited for a "cheap" promotional movie tie-in like a Mobile game, but in my defense, all I have to say is, you get to play The Comedian in Vietnam!
For a small video of the game play, check out the Glu Web site. Watchmen: The Mobile Game is set for release in March 2009 to coincide with the release of the movie.
