So my GF scored some tickets to a preveiw showing of Harry Brown. The new Michael Caine film. Looks like an English version of Grant Torrino, with added riots!

Will update in this thread if I get time tomorrow!

Fascinating. This looks to me like the best work that Michael Caine has done in this decade. I wonder why it's flown so low beneath the radar.

Here's hoping for a wide release. Have fun, Uridium!

this looks good, like the male version of the brave one. of course, michael caine is a better actor than jodie foster IMO, so i have no doubts about this getting rave reviews.

This looks very much like England from the perspective of the Daily Mail (see the 'Right Wing view' thread), but looks good nonetheless. There are a lot of previews here for this (I'm going next Monday), so some thoughts from my site's members if you're curious:

I could not believe THAT was Michael Caine, he certainly seems to be better off when working with the brits.

Thought I would have some time this morning to write something, but work is mental.

I really really enjoyed this film. Its pretty hard viewling at times, as the images you are having to watch can sometimes be pretty disturbing.

Michael Caine... this man is a legend. My already high regard for him just got blown through the roof.

The violence in the film is pretty 'real', which pretty much caused my GF to hate the film.

OH and I chalange anyone to find a better opening to a film. Holy Crap!

This is what we all wanted from Grand Torino, except Hollywood does not have the balls to make a film like this.

In Clint's defense

Gran Torino is not about the same thing that happens in Harry Brown, i will agree however that Hollywood is lacking in high enough testosterone to make films that don't appeal to everybody.

Yeah, I have no problem with Clint.... It's hollywood that needs to reach down and grab a pair sometimes.

I seriously love you for posting this ;) . I think it looks like a truly excellant film, and I will definatly be checking it out when it's released (November 13th). This looks like it could definatly be Michael Caine's best work yet. Fantastic.

You know, it's funny. I read the Daily Mail several times when I was in London, just to familiarize myself with left vs. right media there. As douchebaggy as the Daily Mail is, I must say they would almost seem liberal here in the US

When they make a good proportion of the country (most of them elderly) petrified of teenagers, there's cause for concern. Also, yes, they did that too.

Apparently they killed lots of uncles in 'nam.
From the Total Film review:
Quote:
Ultimately, this is a revenge fantasy plain and simple, with a conservative streak that’ll appeal to readers of certain daily tabloids.

Seems to me that this is more like the new Taken than Gran Torino. Violent, with fans calling it "kick-ass", but with very, very questionable elements.

Taken was well done at least, the reason why it sorta passed under the radar was because this is no longer the 90's, if Harry Brown had been released at that particular date, it would've received a lot of praise.

If anyone goes to see this film, I recommend you skip the abysmal first half but make sure you catch the smartly-directed second.

I saw this tonight. In my opinion, it was absolutly fantastic. I thought it told a very true, excellant story, with a magical performance from Caine. Superb stuff.
