Not because I hail Zimmer over every other composer (his stuff is either very good or terribly mediocre IMO), but because this will move Zack out of his comfort zone. Now that he's working with a respected composer, and not with a friend of his, maybe he'll step back from turning Man of Steel into another videoclip festival. I really hated what he and Tyler Bates did with Watchmen overall.
And yes, to me the score really is crucial for the movie. I'm really excited right now to see what will come out of this movie. I demand a trailer to be shown with TDKR!

If Zimmer just copies John Williams' score, I think we'll all be able to rest easy.

Let's be honest, THIS is the Superman theme (and nothing else can ever replace it).

hell no if you want a williams copy theme go listen to Ottman's returns score

this is a new modern taken on superman with a new cast, new director, new vision and take and even a new suit and actor

it needs a new theme for it's new take on the character

just like zimmer did'nt copy danny elfman's batman theme

nolan was doing a realistic take on batman, hence he needed a new theme.

this is merely a reboot.

and this is'nt a realistic take?

some of snyder's interviews
Quote:
I think the visual style of Superman, though I can’t say for certain as it’s early, but I kind of feel like — and I did say to the studio — that what’s cool for me and interesting, and odd, is that Superman is probably going to be the most realistic movie I’ve ever made. It’s kind of fun that the most realistic movie I probably will make is a movie called Superman. Which shows how crazy my other movies are. Because I guess for him to be credible... He gets more credible by the reality that you can bring to him, you know emotionally, and visually, I think.

Quote:
I think the thing you realize when you look at Diane and Kevin, in our decision to cast them so far, you sort of get a sense of how tonally we're looking at the movie, and what you realize is that those guys are serious actors, and we're taking this s**t f**king seriously in terms of the tone of having those guys. You're talking about having a situation where whatever the action is or whatever the drama of the movie is, our first priority is to make sure it's rendered in the most realistic way we can get at.

Quote:
“I think, in the end, our big challenge is making Superman relevant, making him relatable and interesting. Dimensional. I want people to be able to go, ‘I would have done that if I were Superman. That’s right.’ In the sense that I can empathize with him as a personality, I can empathize with his decision-making in the same way that you can with characters in the movies that you love. Part of it is, you get why Superman feels the way he feels because you would have felt that same way.”

If we're going to judge the movie's tone, I'd much rather go by the trailer than by interviews.

Totally agree, and also I think that scoring a Superman movie will be outside of Zimmer's comfort zone too,
I think Zimmer is just the kind of composer that has the ability to not even accidentally emulate Williams.

let's hope we get a teaser at least with TDKR, I think that's about 4 and a half weeks away now right?

Goyer is a bit of a hack in my opinion, although he has a track record for good movies when he collaborates on the script, any movie where he has done the script on his own, well..... let's hope Nolan has a lot of input.

well definitely, obviously Zod and Faora need themes and cues too.
my biggest worry is that Zimmer will fail to make the score/themes memorable, POTC has a memorable score, and TDK and Inception to an extent, but the man is no John Williams, or even Danny Elfman who are both excellent at making catchy memorable themes that stand the test of time.

Let's not forget Alan Silvestri and the phenomenal themes he wrote for Avengers and Captain America. To say nothing of Back to the Future.

Still, Zimmer is one of the best in the business. Also, I'd be very surprised if Snyder didn't have some ideas of his own regarding how this movie should sound. That means a lot, given how Snyder and Nolan are totally and completely different auteurs.

Between Zimmer's immense musical talents and Snyder's unceasing geeky energy, I think they'll come up with something sufficiently super.

Well, I think it's pretty clear at this point who the villain of this movie should be.

I think it did, you'd have to read it for yourself.

Superman shouldn't be Dark though, the point of superman is that there is always hope. Look at his origin, the world was gripped with one of the worst economic times in modern history and people needed a character that always had hope, now we are in times of great economic turmoil again... maybe we need a hero that doesn't brood, that isn't agnsty... the kind of hero that can make us believe a man can fly.

Superman was kind of a dick back then though

Interestingly enough, I think that what Superman needs is exactly "dark" stories, even though he himself shouldn't be "dark" himself, it's a preposterous idea, but some people in the industry think everything has to be Batman, bummer.
