I was just wondering, I heard ages ago that Philip Seymour Hoffman was cast as Eddie Brock Sr. in the movie, but then never heard anything about it ever again, was Brock ever even mentioned in the movie, or seen even briefly in flashbacks with Parker/Connors?

Nope.

I guess it never panned out then.

Saw the movie today. I'll say it's a missed opportunity.

The actors are all spot-on, the characters are exactly how they should be, the director is committed to the task. And then, the overall tone and script is complete rubbish.
I mean, they were trying way too hard to make it like Batman Begins. And where that movie built up slowly but consistent, this one does it fast and unconvincingly. Everything seemed rushed, and a lot of stupid, unnecesary changes were made just for the sake of being different to Raimi's Spider-Man. This movie has no pace whatsoever.

I had to rant a bit about it somewhere, y'know!

Also, for the post-credits: I thought that could be Electro? Because of the lightning? And because the producers said they ultimately want the Sinister Six united on-film.* But it's kind of a stretch. I really don't know what the hell happened, or why am I supposed to care.

She's a very talented actress, at least in that one movie everybody knows her from. I'll be interested to see how she fares as MJ.

Incidentally, I'll also be interested to see if the Andrew Garfield/Emma Stone relationship manages to outlive Gwen Stacy.

She wasn't in The Godfather. You're both liars.

I don't know, The Secret Life of the American Teenager was a pretty terrible show.

Not that I watched it, I could just tell by the commercials.

My mom watches it and I catch glimpses of scenes here and there sometimes.

It is. It really really is.

Well, at least it's bound to be more interesting than how the last movie portrayed Lizard. Let's see where they go with this one.

Finally saw this.
It was good. 7.5/10 for me.

But it felt rushed.
There was hardly any screentime devoted to the public reaction to Spider-Man himself.
Something which the first Raimi movie did real well.

I think we needed more time WITH Spider-Man.
And more time to cook the villain.
That being said, this film was greatly enjoyable. I had so much fun with it, and Andrew Garfield definitely gave Maguire a run for his money. I think I even like Garfield better.
I do however think this movie hasn't eclipsed Spider-Man or Spider-Man 2, but it blows 3 out of the water.
I miss familiar faces like Harry, and Jameson, but I can accept this is the start of a franchise and I'm definitely looking forward to seeing more.

But when you movie is over two hours, and it feels rushed? Issues you have bro. Of the "many" variety.

ditto, an interesting choice, but he's a great actor so no worries.
I wonder if they are going to go for something inspired by the traditional look of electro, kind of like what they did with Spectacular Spider-man
Image
or like Ultimate Electro, with the Livewire rip off costume.
or just be boring, a guy wearing normal clothes with electricity powers.
I bet it will be like this actually
