I'm not terribly familiar with the manga or the anime, personally. I am rather fond of the two live-action films, though.

That's funny because I'm the opposite. I'm crazy about the manga and anime but I only had a passing interest in the films. I saw the first one and thought it was a very good adaptation but I never got around to seeing the sequel let alone the third one that focuses on L.

Fun Fact: Shusuke Kaneko, the director of the Death Note live-action films directed what is often considered to be one of the three best Godzilla movies (not saying too much I know) and the Gamera trilogy which is equally praised.

Edit: He didn't direct the third one, though.

Err, of the Death Note films I mean. I just realized how potentially confusing that edit could be.

*Assumes the fisticuffing is still going on*

There is a difference between "important" and "appearing a lot", sure, she intervened in a lot of important points in the story, but that didn't really excuse how much her scenes dragged the pacing of the plot to the bottom of the pacific.

Seriously, did you really give a fuck about her career as an actress ?! or the fact that the novice detective, whose name escapes me, has become her agent ? as far-fetched as it is, I'd much rather watch the mind-games between L and Yagami, or N and Yagami for that matter.

Personally, I thought the pacing was fine. There's only like one scene of her acting which is very important in the Yotsuba arc, by the way.

I can't stand her, it's just the way it is, I have a friend who cannot fathom how I have no problem with Sumomo from Chobits and how I believe that Misa simply is a lame-ass character.

Agree to disagree but yeah, I don't really like her that much either.

I read the manga, and thought that it wasn't worthy of all the praise, like most popular animes (Bleach, I'm watching at you).

Sorry Godziller.

S'alright but personally, I thought it was gripping.

You like that word, "gripping", don't you ? DON'T YOU ??!!!!!!!

*Clears throat* anyways, I think Death Note is a great anime, it's just that it has some flaws on it's plot, it also happens to be one of those series that gets hurt by pleasing otakus, and because of the latter is why we have Misa.

Although in Death Note's case is not really serious, if there is an anime that was hurt badly due to otaku pleasing was Elfen Lied, between Nyu, the underwear takes, and the "horns" I had a hard time taking that show seriously.

Yeah, I disagree. Granted, she's seen in very skimpy clothes two times in the series but she wasn't created simply for that.

Which Death Note movie should I do an assignment on? For a Media assignment I have to discuss the differences between a movie and the comic (or manga) based of it. I have chosen to do Death Note but I don't know whether to choose Death Note (live action) or L:Change the WorLd (also live action). I thought L:change the worLd would be good as there are a lot of differences...but I would like other peoples opinions.

I feel like there are too many differences to do L: Change the World. The whole thing would just be contrasting rather than comparing. I mean, that movie doesn't even follow any story laid out in the anime really. I'd do the first two movies versus the anime. Of course, I don't know the exact requirements of the assignment or anything. Those follow the same general story, though. I.E. The first two are based on (really the first half of) the anime.

So Ziller, as you are the resident authority on Death Note, what is with this spin off series, and how is it different to death note. "Through the eyes of a death god" sounds like a re-hash to me.

Oh, that's stupid. It's not a spin-off, it's just a special recapping the first half of the series. There's a second one too. They were just made to milk the series for all it's worth.

They suck. Never watch them. 'Nuff said.

Of course, here's the only scene from the second one that I actually liked.

(Oh, snap the scene was taken down) < I was gonna post a link there.

The specials are like the series but compressed. They switch events around too. Kind of destroys what was cool about the series. That scene that I posted is one of the very few new things that are in either of them.
