I'm wary...

The last one didn't turn out so well.

I saw something about that the other day, wasn't sure if it was a new film or not. As long as it's done in Japanese, and not like *cough*the 2000 film*cough*, I don't think it will be AS terrible. Although seeing the 2012 release date makes me wonder...

^ The above posts were split from the "Movie you last saw" thread.

For my part, I'm optimistic. Enough time has passed since the Roland Emmerich abomination, which means that the VFX are bound to be much better and the lessons learned have assuredly sunk in.

One thing's for sure: The only place left for the franchise to go is up.

Damn, I was hopeful this would be a thread about Godziller, though I was curious as to how he could return without having left...

It was his clone on the boards, Godziller killed his clone and thus returned. Or maybe his clone returned and killed him =/

Anyway, I am not very optimistic. It could be a great monster movie, or it could just be an abomination. It feels like a revival that doesn't need to happen as far as I am concerned. Still, I will withhold my views until we get some more information, but, I am currently suspicious.

Well, I'm semi-optimistic. It can't really be worse than the most recent Godzilla movie but it could certainly be less entertaining.

Hmmm actually it probably could be worse. I assume that they're only going to have Godzilla in it but I don't think I'd mind if there was a monster battle thrown in there somewhere. But maybe that would screw up the story or something. I also wonder what kind of effects they're going to use. (Cgi vs. suitmation) Combination of both?

Well, I went away for awhile but in a time machine. I came back the second after I originally left.

Word of advice: Don't try to assassinate Hitler.

Just trust me on this.

That's not necessarily a bad thing as it's damn entertaining. Final Wars, right?

That's an interesting concept that they've used before but my guess is that they're going to go the bad guy route. Or they could just make him an anti-hero who doesn't care about people but still beats the hell out of other monsters. That would allow careless building destruction.

I think only the japanese can handle Godzilla, so it really shouldn't be THAT bad.

Right :| ?

Here's something to consider: How could Godzilla be defeated in such a way that would allow for sequels? Emmerich, you'll remember, got around this by knocking him up and loosing infant Godzillas on New York. Do you think that could possibly be done in a way that isn't aggressively stupid?

Also, does it really have to be New York? If Godzilla is going to make an appearance in or around Japan (as he did in the '98 movie), it would make far more sense for Godzilla to subsequently head for Seattle or LA (*coughPortlandcough*). Or does it really make sense for Godzilla to swim all the way down to Central America, stomp his way through and then swim clear up to NYC (as he did in the '98 movie)?

Obviously it doesn't, but Seattle doesn't sell, it's a simple thought from simple minds like the people behind Emmerich's Godzilla.

sure it does, Sleepless in Seattle was a big hit, and Fraiser went on for god knows how many seasons. although LA or SF would be a better bet.

SUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCKS

Anyways, for a monster movie, Seattle doesn't sell as well as L.A., New York, or any other "favorites" you can think of.

(See 28 Godzilla movies)

In the first one, they killed him but then they simply made a second Godzilla for the sequels until 1975. After that, they started a new continuity where only the first film happened. Then they started a new one for Godzilla 2000. Then they just started making every subsequent movie an alternate universe where only the first film happened. Except for the second to last two which were related to each other.

But their best bet would probably be an offspring or-oh wait! At the end of GMK it showed Godzilla's beating heart at the bottom of the sea floor. He has such amazing regenerative abilities that they could just make him come back that way. He's pretty much like Jason Voorhees.

Godzilla only actually died in two movies. First time: Oxygen Destroyer, Second time: Radiation overload which caused extreme melting.

does "never having been created" count as dying?
