Why not call it "Video Game of Thrones?"

I wanted to watch it, I just didn't have time to ctach the first few episodes and didn't want to start midway.

I don't see why, now that there are more of us watching, we won't be discussing it as new episodes come out

The premiere is an hour and 13 minutes away for me, and I'll be live tweeting during it and then I'll come here to post my thoughts... anyone else going to do the same thing?

You should post the initial thoughts on each episode, I won't be able to see the show on sundays.

Tonights episode was kind of just an extended recap. Most of the events of the season 1 finale were expanded and their significance was explained a tad better, which (hopefully) means next week shit will get turned up to 11.

8/10

"The t3cii Breakdown"

You must use it here !

I can't speak for the others, but I don't mind spoilers in this topic, in fact, I would feel the discussions would be pretty empty if we do not go into details.

Hmmm, I'll wait and see if other people are pro or anti spoiler

I'm stealing that for the Mad Men thread.

A nice episode but it didn't really pack alot of punch for me, though I recall last season starting similar where it took an episode or two to establish everything before the games began.

Spoilers and the such: The particular moment that "sparked" for me, recalling the carnage that occurred in the last few episodes of season one, was Joffrey ordering Robert's bastards to be killed. It was a rather haunting scene. Ever since episode 2 I've thought Joffrey was a cunt but now he's a royal cunt. Sadly the plot I was looking forward to the most after the first season showed up the least in this episode: Danerys and those wonderful dragons (which are a wonderful special effect). Also not enough Tyrion but really the show could be exclusively about him. While I speak a little disappointed it might just be because I watched the first season in a 3 day block and it'll take some getting used to watching it on a week-to-week basis. That said all the acting was excellent as every and there was some really witty dialogue here.

Guys, seriously, fuck it.

We have no qualms about spoilers in the Breaking Bad or Mad Men threads, not counting other threads of other shows, so why the hell should this one be any different ?

Short version ? SPOIL

I'm going to do some bullet points, but note... these do not correspond with the chronology of the episode, these are written nealry 24 hours (22 hours 43 minutes) after I ended the episode and as such might be slightly off.

+ For me this episode was a tad Joffrey heavy. I have not read the books (yet) and don't know if the books went the same way, but it seems like the writing staff realized as season 1 was winding down that one of the most important characters to the entire story (like him or not the majority of events hinge on him) was flatter than Plank from Ed, Edd, and Eddy. I feel like they now have to flesh him out and make him more than just a usurper and a puppet, despite him being both of those things.

+ Not enough Daenarys, she is trying to reassemble her Khalisar and let her dragons grow (Westeros' own Rita repulsa) yet she was hardly given any screen time. This kind of gets back into pont number one, and also highlights that the happenings across the sea are not as important to the writers and editors as are the happenngs of the War.

+ I know I've just been complaining about how side plots haven't gotten enough time, but the handling of the Knights Watch segments was perfect. Enough time was given to remind the viewer who was who and why the Watch was above the wall, but not too much time where future plot lines were totally revealed... just hinted at. War brewing in the north? Armies larger than the 7 realms? And when they are dscussing where this Northern Army will march, and the response was "When you're that far north there's only one place to go" sent a chill down my spine... the kings and wannabe kings are so wrapped up in their own back stabbing that they are opening themselves up for Invaders (think Ancient Rome).

+ I need more Stannis. He is going to be a major player with a legitimate claim to the throne, but most of the time with his army was spent on his mystic woman (a witch?), we need more of him.

So yeah... that's my big take on ep 1
