Got mine in yesterday...

All-in-all, I am quite happy with this set. A little on the expensive side, but very much worth owning for this WATCHMEN nut.

The Grappling Gun is nice and heavy (and pretty detailed), but one solid piece of cold-cast resin. What's really a bit of a stinker, however, is that it is indeed "permanently" mounted to the display base (which itself is nice with Ror's signature). But I am going to figure out a way to remove it without destroying anything (gun, base, or even the poles).

The Rorschach mask came out a lot better than the prototype, which is a relief. It zips all of the way down the back, but it's designed for display... a good bit too small to actually wear. It looks like it fits in the pic, but I couldn't actually zip it up when it was on my head...

Besides, you can't see a damned thing out of it anyway!

Anyway, very cool WATCHMEN collectible item... but probably not for anyone looking to use it for their Rorschach costume.

Unfortunately, yes. The mask is both too small and impossible to see out of. And even if we can successfully remove the gun from the mounted display, it's solid ploystone/resin (aside from a couple of clear plastic pieces)... which means if you drop it it's gonna break all over the place.

So, yeah... this thing was designed for display only all the way around.

I now kinda fear the Comedian guns. I know those are meant to stay in the display case as well, but I'm definitely going to open that thing up and I would be gutted to discover that the guns are only finished on one side each.

 No offense taken, at all. But, trust me, my head ain't THAT big.

It's possible that this material can be stretched a bit... and I'm sure there will be slight variants out there in how big/small they are when zipped up. But even so there is the other problem of literally not being able to see anything out of it. And I mean anything. Not even your hand in front of your face. I had to feel for the door behind me and nearly knocked over the tripod when posing for that quick picture.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I've been told the comedian guns are only half guns permanently mounted to the board.

Why did they outfit it with a zipper if they didn't intend for it to be wearable?

Weird.

I believe it's because it makes it easier to fit it over the other display bar behind the gun. But, yeah, when I saw the zipper the first thing I thought was, "Cool! It's wearable!" But, nope. And, again, even if it fit it wouldn't matter because you can't see through it.

The thing that bothers me is the mask comes from the exact same pattern used for the film prop. So the replica indeed would be 1:1 in size they just decided not to use a fabric with enough stretch to be wearable. I was able to find a 4-way stretch fabric with the same texture and color why couldn't they? They must have either deliberately decided to make it just for display or didn't want to put in the extra time/money into it.

Hey, does this come with any paper inserts about the gun or a COA?

Do you think the mask will support a hat placed atop it such as the Rubies Rorschach Deluxe Hat?

I have this prop gun placed with DCBS and can't wait till its shipped!

Best,

Michael

It comes with an instruction sheet on how to put everything together for display and a numbered COA (mine is #478 of 1000).

It probably would, but you will likely want to stuff it with something inside first.

Cheers!

Thanks! I received mine today from DCBS. It looks great and the box even arrived in good condition, but I had a wait a wee bit longer than others to receive it.

Best,

Michael

I don't think you would ever want to modify the prop set, that you can buy. first the mask is not meant at all to wearable that's why its in a display stand as well as the grapple gun. If you want to get a mask, make it because if you were to even fit the mass prop you would have to make eye holes and that would look really dumb. Just my 2 cents.

I agree with you, this object is ideal for collectors, not good for who want to use it for Rorschach's costume.

The fabric and texture of the mask are identical to those of the movie... but the inkblot is not very nice... should put another...

;)

heres what I saw when I opened the box...
Image
then I had to assess that I actually had all the pieces to create the final product.
Image
with a little can do attitude and some krazy glue, I was in business!

this is how mine arrived at my house when I bought it on ebay.
the guy's roommate didnt deem it necessary to put any type of protectorate on it. lol

and now I have a good solid grapple gun for my already screen accurate costume!

and the best part, I got all my money back, so it was essentially free!

That is just RIDICULOUS that they shipped it to you that way. Like seriously, I'm sitting here laughing at the ludicrosy of how they must have been thinking when wrapping that up.

What is the model made of anyway? I keep hearing it's super brittle. (glad the one I'm building can probably withstand being dropped a few times X) )
