There wasn't really a place for me to introduce myself, so I think i'll start here.

I watched the movie around 7 months ago for the first time, and immediately fell in love with it. A few days ago I decided to watch it again, and the movie absolutely amazes me. So much that I had to watch it again and then go out and buy it.

The whole storyline at first made my fucking head spin. Mostly because i'm not used to stuff like this. But I fell in love with the Watchmen, and I just ordered the graphic novel on amazon today. It should be arriving in a week or so.

So, if I sound like a noob when I'm commenting on threads, it's because I am one lol. My favorite character is Hooded Justice, I think he is the most mysterious, bad ass mother fucker in the minutemen. Sadly enough there is not that much information about him out there, and sorry for bringing up the movie, IDK if true Watchmen fans actually appreciated it or not.

So, that's pretty much me. I hope you guys can teach me some new stuff because i'm willing to learn, I want to learn the whole story and I really got on board with it all when Watchmen 2 was announced. I can't wait to interact with you guys and i'm really committed to this whole thing, i've never really felt this way about a book or a movie for that matter. I really appreciate what you've guys done here.

If someone could maybe rough me up a little bit in some pms, tell me what the whole story is about, or give me a link to actually read it because I know that I don't know everything just from watching the movie, and going a little in depth to it.

Why when I first viewed the site it was black and redish layout, but now when I registered it's blue and white and a completely different layout. Am I doing something wrong?

I can't imagine what. If I were you, I'd send a private message to DoomsdayClock. He's our forum admin. Let him know your browser, your OS, and anything else that might impact how you surf the web. Also, the forum went through an update recently and we're still reeling from that.

But anyway, you're really in for a treat since you're about to read the graphic novel. A lot of questions you have about the movie will probably be filled in by reading it and you'll get a ton of other material as well. (Including more info on Hooded Justice)

Also, there's no problem with bringing up the movie. The majority of us love it. And I don't know how well-versed you are in it, but there are actually three different cuts of the thing. Theatrical, Director's, and Ultimate. So yeah, if you have any specific questions, feel free to ask them, but I wouldn't really know where to begin if I were to just start trying to tell you about Watchmen in general. I tried to just give someone at my college the basic premise once and it ended up taking fifteen plus minutes.

But yeah, good to see a new fan enthusiastic about the material.

Thank you both very much, i'm really trying to get into this series because honestly i've been very bored lately.

The graphic novel looks awesome. The only bad thing is that it looks a tab bit short. While I can enjoy short books, I love long ones lol because it fills in a lot of the information.

AS for the movie differences, I have the theatrical and i've seen the director's cut I believe on an HBO channel.

Is that the one where Daniel and The Comedian are trying to stop the police riots and instead some girl calls him a (Sorry If I offend anyone), a "Fucking Faggot" and throws a beer can at his head?

I believe I watched the Director's cut first, because when I watched the version that I rented I was always waiting for the part where Holis Mason was killed. That was one of my favorite scenes, any reason it was taken out? It was also fun to see Daniel beat the living fuck out of someone lol. Thank you for your warm replies, it's making me feel good that I stumbled upon this website.

It's fine that you don't really wanna freshen me up on some things. The graphic novel seems awesome and I can't wait to learn about Hooded Justice. When I saw him enter the room and beat Comedian's ass, I had to rewatch that part atleast 10 times lol. I also read somewhere that he BRUTALLY beat people that tried to rob stores or banks. I guess that's why he's my favorite character, he's so mysterious and doesn't have that much of a background story.

Nah, it's not really short. It's pretty meaty as far as graphic novels go.


Time constraints.

By the way, it's pretty much unanimous that the director's cut is better than the theatrical one. (*cough* buy it *cough*)

And the Ultimate Cut is the director's cut with the Tales of the Black Freighter and news stand segments edited in. (You'll know what those are after reading the book)

Oh, really? That sounds awesome. I'm glad it's "Meaty" because I love books that are huge.

I would have bought it, however the original DVD was on sale for only $10 so I grabbed that not even thinking whether or not to buy the Director's cut. I'll try to record it sometime on my tv and tell everyone NOT TO FUCKING DELETE IT. I would have probably still had it then lol.

Erm, I have a couple of questions. I don't know if this is bad guys, but i'm only 15 and I kinda lied about my age, I hope I don't get banned or anything because I'm really passionate about this book and movie and I really want to understand it's logicality more. It would be great if you let me stay. I'm not immature at all, I use proper grammar most of the time and I don't look like a slouch lol.

So with that being said I didn't quite understand the ending. Pretty much Adrian made it look like Dr.Manhattan had attacked the U.S. to make it look like I guess Dr.Manhattan wasn't afraid of doing it to other country's either? Or everyone came together to make peace so this wouldn't happen again? Sorry, I really didn't full understand it, it's really complex for me to take all of that in in such a short period of time.

Okay, first of all, I'm not sure if we even have an age restriction or what, but I doubt any of us care. You're probably more mature than some members we already have anyway.

Second, the point of the ending is that Adrian framed Dr. Manhattan for blowing up several cities thus causing the world to join forces to defend against a common foe. This pretty much helped avert nuclear disaster and the extinction of the human race as the Cold War was at its peak. Whether or not the peace Adrian creates actually lasts is a vague point the reader/watcher is left to wonder. And whether or not Adrian did the right thing or not is one of the central themes of the movie/book. The book will probably help you understand it more as it has more time to dwell on Adrian's plan and he monologues about it for pretty much an entire chapter.

Also, the ending's a little bit different in the book as well. It's pretty goddamn crazy and that's all I'm gonna say for now.

We're all ages and nationalities here, amigo. We generally try to keep it SFW here, aside from the profanity, of course.

As for the book, I'll agree that it's not that long. It's just DENSE. There's something to find in pretty much every panel. There are countless visual motifs, thematic points, recurring story threads, metaphors, comments on the human condition, etc. You could read the book a dozen times and find something new with each read.

Oh, wow that totally makes sense now. Do you ever think there is going to be an actual "Sequel" to Watchmen? I kinda had the same idea on what the ending was, never really fully thought about it I guess.

Thanks for saying that. I'm pretty mature for my age IMO, and people usually think i'm older when I post on forum sites. I guess no one will care but if they do I just gotta say I have a lot to contribute and I want them to contribute back.

Do you think i'll like the ending of the novel better then the ending of the movie? I didn't really understand the ending ending either, I guess i'm a fucking idiot or something. It says Rorschach's Journal: October 12th, 1985. A Comedian died in New york. So that means this news company is going to publish Rorschach's journal and everyone is going to figure out what actually happened? See that masked vigilantes aren't as bad as they seemed etc? Idk really. I just kinda had that thought.

I can't even describe this though.. I have this weird feeling because i've never gone in depth like this to a story ever. I really like this book and i'm glad I decided to rent that movie again. I guess i'm overreacting a little bit, it's just i'm so excited about this. It's a lot of fun to post my thoughts. Thank you guys for replying. I just don't know what i'm feeling right now. Excitement, wonder, happiness, lol. Again, i'm overreacting a little bit but this is letting me release my thoughts on this complex story for once. I'm definitely going to become an active member on this site and contribute every which way that I can.

Also, after I read the graphic novel, is there really anything else to read or kinda hold me over until Watchmen two? And does anyone know when they are going to peice together all the sets into one book like the novel? I'm not trying to ask that many questions but I have alot.

I also have another question, where do I get these comic book weekly's when it comes out? I hear there is a new issue every week and i'm not sure how to get my hands on them. I might hold the suspense in and wait for the huge book but idk if I can wait that long.

Sorry if i'm being annoying in my posts. I honestly am just really excited about this whole website thing and venting my thoughts, Watchmen, characters, lol. I really love that I stumbled upon this.

Well, not a lot of people really want an actual sequel. It'd rob the original work of the ambiguity its ending presents and that's one of the main things the entire book works to build up to. Even the prequels have been met with a lot of resistance from fans.


That's difficult to say. It fleshes out Adrian more, that's for sure. You might just end up liking the book as a whole more. It has more time to fit a lot more into the story. Even the 3 and a half hour Ultimate Cut can't capture everything the book manages to present in its own unique way.


It's pretty much saying Adrian's plan might be revealed after all, though it's also kind of unlikely seeing as how the entire public viewed Rorschach as a complete nut.


Believe me, we all know exactly what you mean.


Well, by Watchmen 2, I assume you mean the prequels. For one, you could always re-read the graphic novel if you want. It's one of those things that, like the movie, benefits from going over it again. Also, you've seen two cuts of the movie, but after you read the book, you could always check out the Ultimate Cut if you want. There's also a fan cut called the WCM Cut constructed by one of our most dedicated members as well as vast amounts of input from a lot of forum members.

As for the prequels being put together in one book, that won't happen per se. They'll definitely collect each mini-series into their own volume (For example, there'll be a Rorschach one, a Comedian one etcetera), but it would be really expensive if they put all of them into one. And you can get the issues as they're coming out by either visiting your nearest comics store this June or by downloading them through the internet.

I'm glad other people are understanding me. I have so much excitement boiling in me lol I feel weird however.

I'm sad that it won't be all one book, but I know by over time I will have them all in my possession. I usually read a book 2-3 times within the time that I get it if I enjoy it very much, which by hearing a lot of you and some reviews I most likely will.

I also checked every single bookstore in my town and even outside of my town and no one had the graphic novel. Wasn't it on like the top 100 of best novels or something? I forget. I was really surprised by that but nonetheless I am getting it soon.

I have this weird little candy shop called Maury's and it's a local place that sells comics. I don't believe it sells Watchmen comics but you never know. I'll check there once they are being released and ask the store manager what's going on with them. Either that or I could just order them online but I hate waiting for them to get to my house. I'm always tense when something is coming in the mail lol, I check the mailbox every day even if I know it's not coming that day.

Do you guys also think that the Comedian is one of the most complex characters in the story? Do you guys feel like he wasn't actually as bad as he seemed and had a heart deep down lol. I think he really cared about Sally and Laurie and wanted to take care of them before he died but never had the chance to.

Another thing, why did Rorschach make Dr.Manhattan kill him at the end? Because he didn't want to live his life living off a lie? WOW. I think I just answered my own question. He knew he dropped his journal in the mail... So he died and kind of sabotaged Adrians plan.. Or am I getting ahead of myself?

That's pretty much it. Rorschach tries to live in a world where everything is black and white. Therefore he couldn't reconcile the fact that he had to either expose Adrian and possibly start up the nuclear holocaust engines again or keep quiet and let Adrian get away with the murder of millions.

I really don't believe so. I think there are maybe a couple like 20 minutes away but I never really go there unless my family goes too so probably not. My town is a small town, only about 30k and filled with fast food restraunts and walmarts and shit. Very crappy town lol
