Comedian Patton Oswalt irritated by fans that bashed the film before it had been released.

I certainly had a few nits to pick before and after seeing the film, but overall I'm happy it got made and mostly happy with the film overall.

Too bad the MTV clip isn't viewable in Canada. Transcript, anyone?

While I would have love to hear what he actually thought of the movie, he does make a good point. Sadly that's just how geeks are. Whenever there is something that is even being remotely hyped there will always be a group of people who'll hate on it before it comes out. We saw it with Watchmen, and now we're seeing it with Avatar.

Maybe, instead of engaging in speculation, we should take his advice and talk about something already known and proven, like what an unfunny hack Patton Oswalt truly is.

Sure, Snyder took one for the team... but the team wasn't clammoring for a martyr.

I think Snyder did a great job of fucking up Watchmen... and I mean that with sincerity and no malice. That a Watchmen movie is, by definition, a fuckup is a foregone conclusion that did not require a release date or sneak tickets to surmise. If you learn that someone is fucking your girlfriend, you don't have to wait and see the video of it online to know that you're screwed.

But at least Zack loved her and treated her as well as possible and cuddled with her after, sharing a smoke until she fell asleep. And now he's even sleeping in the wet spot.

But Watchmen is not a free spirit able to blow any medium and take any amount of penetration from all comers. Watchmen is a delicate mistress married entire to the comic book form and any effort at adaptation is an effort toward adulteration.

And there are many that might watch her taking it up the ass complete with comentary and cheer the DP and the elasticity of the material being penetrated. Indeed, when she calls out her master's name from time to time, there are moments when one can recognize her true love and be moved...

... but, still... to watch a true love in another bed... even the bed of a fellow admirer... is not the same as watching her stroll in on the arm of Alan Moore.

A mixed comment? Yes. But Patton Oswalt deserves to catch his true loves in the beds of his fellows... so he'll know what the fuck he's talkiing about.

And yes... I enjoy commenting weeks and even months after the fact.

So you basically hate any and all adaptations in general?

Also,

Watchmen isn't just any adapted material, Godziller. There's a big difference making a movie out of, say, Spider-Man (with tons of material to pick and choose from as well as a great deal of leeway in allowable liberties) than making a movie out of the singular, deep, lengthy and complex graphic novel crown jewel that is Watchmen.

I meant of Watchmen.

Not at all. Don't make silly assumptions. I didn't hate this one. There's a lot to like there. But, and I feel I've been very clear on this matter, the tale defies adaptation and this is clear to all who fathom it... including Zack Snyder, who obviously understood it very well.

Oh, I thought you hated it. Like you were saying that Watchmen was a woman and Zack Snyder violated her...or something.

Anyway, I wouldn't say it defies adaptation. It's there and it's a good movie. We all knew that it couldn't have contained the same amount of awesomeness that made the book so great.

Thank you very kindly. I do try. In my experience, once the NVNs (as Jim Owsley used to call them) find you "creepy," you've probably made your point.

And, yes, Godziller66, I see Watchmen as a woman defiled by Hollywood... but defiled women hold many charms.

;)
