Details and the cover art for the new Watchmen movie DVD and Blu-ray have been released by WB.

VERY disappointed with the cover art. It is ugly and truly awful.

The package itself looks nice at least. And it looks as though the ugly "Digital Copy" Banner will not be on the outermost cover.

Are you...is this a joke? That can't really be the cover art, right? That has to be fake, and they made a mistake and printed some fanart. Please tell me it is, I've had a shitty week and it's only Tuesday.

WHAAAAAT really? Awful cover art, IMO. They should have used that Canadian Steelbook edition art.

How lazy and ignorant of Watchmen can you possibly get?

DVD cover designer: Hey, Zack I need to do this cover art. Can to tell me a bit about the movie so I can design it?

Zack: Yeah, sure! Basically, it's the DC of Watchmen but with Tales of the Black Freighter and some new scenes spliced in... and basically it-

DVD cover designer: Wait. So you're saying... Watchmen. With Pirates?

Zack: We'll yeah but there's also-

DVD cover designer: I'll get right on it.

What a way to fuck up an iconic image and easy cover.

All they would have needed to do is simply use the damn smiley face and your set. I always hoped it would mimic the Absolute Watchmen book in with a simple hard black casing.

EDIT: I just noticed the time length is 215 for the Ultimate Cut. That's just about another 1/2 hour added onto the Director's Cut.

So, in total, that's roughly an hour that the TC didn't have. Hardly something to sneeze at.

Wow! The cover art sucks. No question.

But it's the movie that counts and I can't wait to check this out.

A couple of things popped out at me:

1. Why is the 5 disc version CHEAPER than the 4 disc one?
2. Release date of November 3rd. Hardly a December release. I like it!

I don't like the repetition on the bonus features. Video journals, yup, already got those. And digital copies again! How many of these do we need? Considering mine didn't work and I had to buy a second hand copy of the theatrical cut, I'm done with digital copies. Stinko on the bonus features. Like the commentaries though.

I like the motion comic being included as well as Under The Hood as I held off buying these in the hopes they would be included in one set.

Not sure which one of these I'm buying. I'd like the one that doesn't have the crappy, useless digital copies or the video journals I already have.

Dying to see the movie though! Still got my fingers crossed on more screen time at the newsstand.

Oh, I see. The 5 disc is standard DVD. The 4 is blu-ray. Got it.

About the cover...

1. Understand that they can't use the smiley because of the assholes at Smiley, Ltd.
2. They need something that stands out that will say "Watchmen" and "This is Different - NOT the Director's Cut"

Like it or not, this cover does that. I don't love it either, but I can understand their motivation

Could they have got away with using this version of the Smiley?

So are you saying they wouldn't be able to use this for the DVD cover?

The cover gave me a chuckle. Ridiculous. Even more ridiculous than the DC cover. I'd prefer just the image of Blake going out the window.

The commentary is the only new extra? Lame! That's the biggest disappointment for me.

Another digital copy of the TC? Lame! Why not include a digital copy of the DC instead?

No, they can't. The smiley was cleared to be used in promotional material and in the film itself. That's it. No merch including the DVDs

Well, it is a Zack Snyder/Dave Gibbons commentary. That's pretty sweet.

This does suck, and I really don't get why they did this, yet again.

Why couldn't they have just done something like that?

Ok, i love the interior art, reminds me of the excellent blade runner box, i like the 3 discs too
if they're gone put the same special features on there i'd rather they put them all on there or none. i have the totbf blu ray and now its only useful for a 30 min doc (which was ok) unless they use oll of totbf in the ultimate cut (even tho only parts are in the comic) and now all the dir cut blu is good for is the 1st disc, couldn't that be included instead of another digital copy (if i want the theatrical cut i wish it was on a disc or branched with the dc) i also wish there was a proper doc
even tho i've gone blu, i'd hate to see the film on 1 dvd disc

also, why does the motion comics have to be seperate in the box?

This still wouldn't be great, but I think it would be an improvement.

Or something along those lines.

After thinking it over, I see that this is a challenging cover to do. You do want to include a strong reference to TBF since that's the defining difference with this edition. But you obviously still want to include something familiar from the other versions. I think the above accomplishes that much at least. Downside: It would pretty much give away that the TBF storyline is about Ozy.

I'm also disappointed by the lack of new special features. The ultimate cuts of the LotR movies featured hours of brand new special features. This is just the same generic featurettes from the DC Blu-ray and the motion comics, which I already have.

^ Agreed. I'm looking forward to the commentary, but I was hoping for a lot more. Besides the video about the graphic novel, the extras on the DC had a promotional feel to them.

I dunno, but I'm glad. It'll make it easier for me to sell it on eBay.
EDIT: Nevermind. Looks like they're only going for like $5.
