Of course it's necessary for the film, but they sure as fuck dragged it out. She should have just pulled it out and shot him without the western showdown before it.

Pissed off crimefightin' chick pulls a gun on the bad guy n' shoots him... and it should be a throw-away?

Nup.

And yes, the bullet-catch should be in the movie. Same as the big-ass Bubastis. It's grist for the mill and it's character defining meat in the sandwich.

Yeah I guess they sort of are. But Pain's current one is pretty new, and I'm hardly a regular enough poster to get noticed real often.

The bullet catching scene should have been there... but not the one we see onscreen.

The scene went wrong way back in the preproduction costume designing days when someone decided to give Ozymandias black gloves. This decision would ruin the scene entirely, robbing it of the intended imagery and thematic resonance.

In the comic, Veidt catches the bullet barehanded, but he has to use both hands to do it. The result is a pair of stigmata that underscore his character's thematic template: Jesus Christ. Not to mention the obvious... that he has blood on his hands. So that when the newsreports come in, he thrusts his bloody hands up and says "I did it!" His image here resembles the crucified Jesus, bloody hands outstretched, imagining that he has taken on the burden of the world and saved it, saying "It is accomplished." Monstrous delusions in both cases.

All that beautiful imagery went bye bye when they redesigned his outfit. Everything in Watchmen affects everything else. You change one seemingly insignificant thing and you ruin ten other things with increasing significance. Which is why, when asked if Watchmen was cinematic, Alan Moore said it is the very opposite of cinematic.

Indeed, it is silly in many ways, him having gloves. Hey, they have kevlar plates!
I reckon the 'stigmata' would have translated well to the screen. It seems many of the missed opportunities in the cinematic adaptation are Ozy-related.
