I came across the band Joy Division for the first time about 2 months ago and was instantly hooked! Anyone else a fan? I'll admit that i've never listened to any entire album of there's, only listened to a few individual songs.

Love will tear us apart, shadowplay, and transmission are three songs that get played often in my ipod.

Yeah, they seem to be pretty popular with forum members. I know AYB's a fan, and recently I commented on a photo of Ninjet wearing a Joy Division t shirt, and I think Soupdragon has actually seen them in concert. I started to get into their music after seeing Radiohead cover "Ceremony". Then I started listening to early New Order, when they still had a bit of a rock edge left over and before moving on to more recognizable songs like Blue Monday, and Bizarre Love Triangle.

I'd be a bigger fan of Joy Division if Ian Curtis had been a better singer. His delivery is often a bit strange, especially when there isn't a trace of an accent. In a way he makes me appreciate Bernard Sumner a bit more, who I also wasn't always a big fan of. If I had to pick favourites, I'd pick Transmission and She's Lost Control (live versions) and Disorder. For New Order, Age of Consent, Leave Me Alone, and Regret.

I was a bit hesitant at first because Curtis' delivery in singing. Sometimes I couldnt help thinking he was a drunk man singing (he wasn't). A lot of his words came off as just mumbling to me. But once I looked up the lyrics and 'felt' the music, I got passed the mumbling and really enjoyed and appreciate some of their work. when listening to Joy Division I can't help but think of them as the 'grandfathers' of goth music.

As for New Order? All I know is Blue Monday.

Well, you know they formed New Order after Ian Curtis died. Old songs have a sort of Joy Division sound, which they would later abandon. Although they did still play Joy Division songs live later in their career:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=myRq7CI2VSQ

If you'da asked me a couple of years ago I woulda said that Joy Division was my favourite band. These days I don't listen to them as much, but yeah, they rule.
And Alfonso, you should definitely check out the albums, there's only two.

If you like The String Quartet, check out their tributes to Iron Maiden and Dream Theater as well.

Okay this is pretty awesome.
Damon recorded this primarily on an ipad during the October Gorillaz tour. Because it cost nothing to make... he released it for free on Christmas day. It's pretty damn fresh.

Both albums are excellent, both of them took me a long time to get in to. Particularly the Anaal Nathrakh album, which sounds positively terrifying at first. Ihshan on the other hand was difficult to get in to because I don't really have anything to compare it to, nevertheless it is an absolutely sublime album, the saxophone sounds great on it, and the guy is quite clearly very musically talented. Although I wouldn't have cared for it at the time, I really regret not going to see him in August.
