I don't really listen to reggae. I'm familiar with the song because it was on a compilation disk put out by a member of Massive Attack, who I used to be a fan of. Anyway, if I were to listen to it I'd probably listen to early reggae, which tended to be more up-tempo than modern reggae.

Never doubted you were more of a hip hop guy

Early reggae was also much more "politically" savvy, I don't think I've ever heard an old reggae song without social sensibilities.

Well, I wouldn't say I'm necessarily a hip hop guy....

I find that because reggae typically has such a specific template, it's easy to get really mediocre music out of it. I feel the same way about ska, bands like Real Big Fish, Save Ferris, and even early No Doubt end up sounding like parodies of the genre. Actually, I think I might have been referring to ska in my original post, being up-tempo.

Here's a cool, more punkish reggae song you might like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qeEF71G9Eiw

It's "Reel Big Fish" actually

About Ska, I feel the exact same way, hence why I either hate "X" ska band or love "Y" ska band, it's a very volatile genre since it's quite simple to reproduce, in fact, I would be as bold as to say that succesful ska bands are those that steer away from ska, precisely like Reel Big Fish, Ska-P, Desorden Público (from the motherland), among others.

I seem to recall ska having a bit of a comeback in the mid to late 90's, with The Mighty, Mighty, Bostones and Goldfinger being popular, and No Doubt being ska inspired. There was this tv show that featured a battle of the bands, and there was this one ska band that looked so cookie cutter. All back suits, black ties, etc. I agree that it's a genre you'd want to try to push just to sound fresh.

A classic from Fish Bone: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KK640dPPhXE&ob=av2e

A rocking version of Concrete Jungle by the Specials:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OTrY3G6eGJs

I think they're from LA. I remember stumbling across the song on youtube and thinking it was probably from the late 70's, early 80's, but it's actually from a few years ago. The singer has a great voice. Not bad for a white guy. ;) . Their lowfi sound makes them sound pretty authentic. http://www.amazon.com/Dirty-Reggae-Aggrolites/dp/B00097275K

Goldfiner ? PETA supporting Goldfinger ?

Not that the PETA part has anything to do with that, but every song I've heard from those guys is straight-up punk, not really street nor hardcore, but punk rock still.

Judging by the picture of the band at 1:10, from the link of "Dirty Reggae" you sent me, those guys seem like the Blue Öyster Cult of reggae with the whole dark glasses and black shirt & pants get-up

Hahaha Yeah, I didn't even realize it until I watched the making of the video in the side bar.

Yet another reason they need to invent backwards time travel. I knew Radcliffe was gonna do a good job, but that blew away any expectation I had.

My mom went to New York a few months ago, and she saw that stage show, and was really impressed with Radcliffe.
