So, recently, I was watching an episode of "Homeland" in which one of the main characters was listening to what I refer to as "Elevator Jazz" in her car.

Now, I've never liked Jazz, except when I heard it while watching that show about a week ago, somehow, in the middle of all the stress and worries in my life, I found that music to be incredibly soothing and relaxing, as well as surprisingly entertaining, quite a weird experience considering I've never been able to get into Jazz.

That said, who among you listens to this genre ? Which musicians do you like ? Should I start from somewhere specific or "backtrack" from Swing into Jazz ? Fire away people.

ah, elevator/lounge music... never ceases to amaze.

i suggest you look up richard cheese, he does fantastic lounge/swing covers of popular songs (most notably "get down with the sickness" and "my neck my back").

"One, two, ONE TWO THREE FOUR.........*trumpet and drums*"

That's probably 95% of all Ska songs.

 Unfortunately, that's not much of an exaggeration. I mean, No Doubt were pretty much a ska band at the beginning.

I would suck so hard, you have no idea. I can swing a bass drum mallet with the best of them, but I've never been very good on a full set.

Incidentally, I get most of my jazz fix through the leader of my drumline. In the spare time before gigs or practice, he's pretty much always got a radio set to the local jazz station. I wouldn't know any particularly good artists off the top of my head, but I find that the genre is very good in small doses.
