RA Dickey (the pitcher in the gif) just came off of a CY Young winning year pitching for the New York Mets, at the age of 38. He did it by throwing that pitch in the gif, which is a knuckleball. A knuckleball is a are hard pitch to throw, and even harder to hit. Because it requires the pitcher to throw the ball with as little spin on the ball as possible. Looking at the gif, you'll notice the ball has a weird trajectory, almost as if the ball is floating out of his hand and being sucked into a vacuum. In fact, if you look closely, you can actually see the MLB logo on the ball facing towards you. If it were a fastball, you wouldn't be able to see the stitches on the ball because it would be spinning so fast. Because these pitches require less speed to throw, it also means someone as old as him can continue to pitch as a starting pitcher. I think he might be the only pitcher who currently uses the knuckleball.
