Now for the most controversial statements of this thread:

I read Arkham Asylum awhile back and hated it. Particularly the art, the story was decent, but I couldn't stand the art, which in a comic is half the overall book.

And I read ASBnR and loved it I found it to be a more realistic take on Batman than a lot of the 'realistic' batman stuff I've read. Mainly, because a guy who watched his parents die in front of him, then goes off and secludes himself from any grieving/recovery process, only to then return and start fighting crime dressed as a bat would not be a nice guy. He'd be out of his fucking mind.

As amazing as Adam West was at Batman, the character in the realworld would be so much more like Rorschach than any body wants to admit. Instead of being the 'don't swear/don't kill guy' I think you'd have the Dirty Harry in a cowl that Miller gave us... technically in DKR.

Now I'm not saying ASBnR is the greatest Batman story ever, but it's a fun ride. Still I say DKR is the best Batman story for so many reasons

interestingly, i would say DKR isn't my favourite batman story because i hate the Art in DKR.

also people will probably hate me for this, but i actually prefer DKSB in some ways.

It's DKSA, but any ways...

How do you prefer the art in DKSA to that of DKR? ?I mean.... DKSA's art is what turns a lot of people off to it

DKSA, yeah strikes back, strikes again, tomayto tomahto,

anyway, i like the art in DKSA because there's more going on, it's more exciting, i found the art in DRK to be boring to look at, i'm sure it's a stylistic choice, but everything is grey and white and kind of muddy brown.
it's been about a year since i read them both, but that's how i remember them.

The art is the least disastrous thing in that mess of a comic, seriously, what the hell is the matter with Frank Miller ? does he have to slap our faces with his fascist beliefs whenever he feels like it  ?!

Well, I try.

But Donald Sutherland did most of the work.

Our good ol' friend, cumonass, tells us how much he loves TDKR

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lfd-xj5UEm0

Also, he gives away plot spoilers and bashes Zack Snyder.

It's amazing that someone can talk for ten minutes without actually saying anything, except that we should like dkr if we like Batman and that john romita jr is apparently influenced by Frank Miller, and that if your name is forgotten by cumonass, you don't have cred or cojones.
I do agree with him about female Robin though, but I think everyone does.
I was reminded however, of this, which rules:

read arham asylum last night, really liked it, apart from the fact not much happens, probably a testement to the fact that it was written as a 64 page one shot and then padded out to make it longer (according to the afterward) and it seems to be an excuse to have batman fight loads of villains. i think the art is what makes it though. my only complaint was the joker's dialogue was quite hard to read

Which is weird because the art killed it for me

that is weird, i find a lot of comic books just have pictures showing what is happeneing in the story, sure those pictures can be very very good, like alex ross is an incredible comic artist, but what he draws/paints is an attemt at photorealism, in AA, it's impressionist, almost abstract.
things like the fact that you never see batman's face, and when you do see him he is nearly always in silhouette, or you just see his shadow, all the characters are very exaggerated, the joker looks more insane than ever, two-face's scarred side is probably the most hideous i have ever seen it, killer croc is more reptillian than ever etc etc it's almost like the story is being seen through an insane person's eyes.

The art is awesome, but I'd rather Jack Kirby's Silver Surfer any day of the week over the arkham asylum art.

I just finished Hush. The ending was a big wtf for me. I didn't see Hush's motivations coming at all.

He'd make a good villain for Batman 3, but they'd need to rework it so the plot doesn't involve him manipulating all of Batman's villains. Which is almost the whole story.
