Fuck yeah John Frankenheimer as director. I'm sure he would find some way to put in a car chase :D

Although he certainly would've been a much better Veidt.

Newman is know for his emotions and charisma... two things Dr. M does not have... at all. Why cast a guy that is so dang charming to be someone cold and distant?

Nah, Alfonso's got it. Rorschach's sentiment is much more 40s than 30s. Best of both worlds, Edward G. Robinson. But strictly 40s, Mitchum all the way.

I agree with this, I don't know who Mitchum is but Bogart as Rorschach ? Deffinitely not.

"The Night of the Hunter"

Mitchum plays the shady priest with "love/hate" tattooed over his knuckles.

It's a worthwile flick :)

Let's try to cast this for real. From the style of the posters and actors chosen, I'd guess this film would have been released in the early 1960's - let's say 1962-63.

I agree that Paul Newman as Doc is a bad call. I think Marlon Brando could pull of the Doc perfectly. Brando can feel beyond intense even when it seems he's not emoting much.

Although Anthony Perkins isn't the worst choice for Rorschach, I think Jack Nicholson would work here. I'd give Mitchum the Comedian role - I think the ages match up better here as well.

Fonda and Bordot seem to be a good fit as well. And their ages are perfect in 62-63.

Von Sydow may a bit old looking and creepy to be Ozy. Now, put Newman in that role? That could work.

Robert Redford as Veidt. Yul Brynner would have been the go to guy to play Jon.

No... just no. Brando is good, but I don't think he would have been a good Dr. M.

Why wouldn't he have been a good Dr. M? Jon is a very intense, intellectual character who speaks clearly and with a cold detachment that would rival a computer. Brando is famous for playing characters like Terry Malloy who are people from the streets, Even Don Corleone is one of those street smart, but not book smart, guys.

True he's been in things like Apocolypse Now, where he's a "god" but that's not the kind of character Dr. Manhattan is. The problem with dream casts is that usually people just put good actors in roles, but that doesn't mean they would be good.

Perfect example Bogey as Rorschach... that would be terrible on so many levels, even though Bogey has played gumshoe/noir detectives that doesn't mean he'd be good in that part. Another example is Jimmy Stewart, one of my favorite actors, he'd be horrible as Dr. Manhattan, despite being a very good actor
