It's the first google image result for 'long chain'. The fact that one part is red was convenient luck.

its funny... when I google image search "long chain" i get all kinds of weird shit.

Ayb keeps safe search on.

KEEP IT ON!!!!!!

I was about twelve years old when Star Wars came out. I was a geeky si-fi kid, busy reading Asimov, Clarke... every other sci-fi writer in the library. I had encyclopaedias about sci-fi movies and literature... along with the box of comics I inherited off my older brothers it pretty much defined my world at the time.

One thing I recall wondering is 'how come there isn't ONE science fiction film that matches the intensity, fun, magic of the worlds I get a glimpse of when I read these books?'. I loved watching old Flash Gordon serials on TV, and I loved re-runs of Star Trek, but all of it had a retro-appreciation factor. Even by my twelve-year-old's standards modern sci-fi tv or movies just all fell short of expectations and potential by a long shot (I hadn't seen 2001 yet, just read about it. I had read the short story it was based on and Clarke's retro-fit 'novelisation').

Then Star Wars arrived, and for the first time a film felt and looked like the books in the library shelves, and I was happy. Very happy. I felt vindicated. I was right! This shit is good! It can take over the world!! It doesn't have to look like it was shot behind a fatory in Burbank! So Star Wars was first off the block to tick all the boxes. And that shit still looks good (well, it would if Lucas would stop messing with it and let us see it in it's original form).

dude i was 12 when episode 1 came out.... imagine the feeling of watching Star Wars at age 12, and replace that with Episode 1,

i liked the prequels.
they obviously weren't in the same caliber as the original trilogy, but I enjoy them alot.

when i was around 8 or 9, give or take a year, the original trilogy was rereleased in theaters as the special editions. So I got to see all 3, for the first time ever, on the big screen, in one weekend.

My following birthday, i got the special edition VHS trilogy, and a tiny TV/VCR set.
I was in heaven.

so, star wars really sparked my love of sci-fi and adventure in a big way

i tried (i told everyone not to get me the four-disc trilogy collection when it came out because i knew the theatrical/2004 cuts would be coming out together), but failed. i think whenever i move out, i'll just get those DVDs. but as for the VHS, nostalgia man.

It amazes me how we're talking about everything except Watchmen in this thread.

do you use it?
even if i did have one, i wouldn't have space for it, and i couldn't justify having it for lack of use.

and i have star wars theatrical cuts on DVD, which you could get too, and they wouldn't wear out like the VHSs, which also wouldn't be upscaled like the DVDs, and i suspect your copy of ANH says that it's called ANH and not "Star Wars" anyway, this conversation has now gone full circle.

I only use it for star wars

I had around 650+ VHS movies in 2002.
I bought my first DVD player in 2005.
I hadn't even begun to switch em out per se until 2007.
I have now about 300+ DVDs and around 50+ Blu Ray movies.
Which means, all things considered, and about 200 extra VHSs hitting the trash can.
I have about 100 VHS that I still use.
Among which are Moonwalker, Volcano, Minority Report, Star Trek: The Motion Picture, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, (and all through Insurrection), Street Fighter, Rocky IV, Titan A.E., Phantom 2040, Megaman, Jim Lee's Wildcats, etc etc etc

when i got my PS2 in 2001 or so, as an entire family we had perhaps 40 VHSs most of which were self recorded, and most of the rest were kids stuff

I used to work for a local video rental store a while back. We were really behind the times when it came to DVDs, despite the fact VHS was becoming obsolete. One day there was a bit of an accident and I somehow magnetized all of the videos we had in the store. So me and my coworker Mos Def had to try and film all of the movies by ourselves.

True story.
