Can we be absolutely sure about that ? Maybe they won't appear in full frontal assault mode but maybe in other forms ?

they probably will.
I don't see why people are hoping they won't.
My sole intrest in this movie is how it will expand on Alien lore and such.

No it isn't.

gullible me.

I think you may have just misheard him, because -morph is the suffix for change. xeno- is the prefix for alien or foreign.

anyway that image from the previous page is just Giger mural, Giger IS working on set design, doing murals for the movie.

assuming Ridley Scott and Damon Lindeloff have been telling the trtuh, the movie is set in the same universe as Alien, the movie has "Alien DNA" (whether they mean literally or figuratively we don't know for sure) but there will be no "xenomorphs".

however on the chance they are lying, there may very well be aliens of some sort, we have seen SJs several times in the trailer, and there is no way that they will be giving everything away in the trailer, therefore there must be something that we haven't seen that needs the reveal of SJs to cover it up, which means it must be big, so xenomorphs are a possibility.

there is speculation that this movie explains the artificial origin of xenomorphs, we see the urn things in the trailer which are speculated to be artificial versions of eggs, and that the constantly evolving Aliens evolve to self-reproduce after or during the events of the movie.

there is speculation that the mutant guy in the trailer is in the process of mutating into the first xenomorph.

the fact there is an android on the crew could be to do with explaining the biomechanical nature of the xenomorph, perhaps they learn from both biology and technology to become the perfect creature.

we could speculate all day, but I doubt they will have given us enough information to go on yet, perhaps we may get some more clues from viral marketing, or from TV spot footage closer to release, but i think it's too early for now.

Every time I see the abbreviation "SJ" in this thread, I just think "Samuel Jacksons?"

But yeah, that's an interesting thought that's probably true.

Seriously, I'm convinced no Xenomorph will appear. They seem to exploring a whole different "species" in this universe, that species of course being the Space Jockeys and also the possibility of some sort of biological weapon. This film will not end with the Nostromo coming towards camera and John Hurt waking up from cryostasis. Not only that, the derelict ship in the trailer isn't even the one from Alien, nor is the planet they're on LV-426.

Yes, it's a prequel in terms of where it sits in the Alien timeline. But this isn't The Thing (2011) ...

I agree, I don't think the Alien will appear, but something like the Alien will, and there is no way it will end anything like that, this movie is not supposed to be a set up for Alien, it's it's own thing that just happens to be using a pre-established universe, probably to help marketing, also it's set like 50 years before Alien.

I'd love it if these Alien connections have all been a hoax and the film actually ends with Roy Batty and the other replicants escaping to earth

One of the things I'm more interested to learn about is how will Shaw and crew discern that the Space Jockeys (or whoever the villains are) constitute a direct threat to humanity ? Or even Earth itself ?

It seems, from the trailer, that they find a blue holographic map, which would seem (context-wise) to be some sort of star-map, but how would the Shaw interpret the actions of the aliens as hostile motivations ?

Merely curious, not trying to nitpick the film before it's release !

Unless the SJ made all their ships identical, you are wrong.

What's to say they didn't make them all the same? How about how the planet itself looks completely different? What about how the Captain Dallas (from memory) says the Space Jockey had been there for a very long time and had "fossilized"?

Which is why I brought that idea up, how do we know there wasn't a massive amount of Space Jockeys that died out years ago? I'm sure they had space fleets n shit, also terraforming? maybe the port thing that the ship rises out of is destroyed, and the ship just lies on its ruins?

I'm more inclined to believe something like this, as far as it goes, Scott is going back to the Alien mythology, making nods towards the first film, while also making a movie that holds on it's own without relying so much on previous entries.

Yes it is the same derelict ship.

If what I've read right, the ship is capable of massive terraforming.
I think they damaged the ship so it couldn't get to earth, and instead it fucked up THAT planet.
No it won't end with any footage, reshot or original of Alien, but it will set the stage for it.
Maybe ending with a close up of a facehugger in an egg?

All you have to do is listen to anything Damon Lindlelof or Ridley Scott has said to realize that it's not a The Thing type prequel. From what I've gathered, it's within the same universe but exploring a new, yet related, mythos. Scott said him and Lindlelof sat down for months to come up with an "original" story to tell in this universe.

Yes, it's a prequel on the Alien timeline and it explains who the Space Jockeys are but I'm convinced it's not the same ship or LV-426.

They say fossilization takes a minimum of 10,000 years, y'know ...
