They weren't trying to make him look exactly like a young Bruce Willis at all. What they tried to do was take a few of Willis' key features and apply them to JGL to create a sort of "hybrid" of Joe and Bruce.

A lot of interviews talk about this. It's definitely strange seeing it at first, but I actually think it looks great and the only part that's distracting is knowing what JGL actually looks like ...

There are some angles where it works. Other angles, not so much.

In any case, it's a great premise with a lot of talent behind it, and that's enough to sell me a ticket.

Some people make the argument that it should have been someone who looks more like JGL. I can't really complain. I don't findi it THAT offputting at all. Actors use makeup in films all the time. Big deal. A performance is more than just makeup and word on the street is that JGL nails it. All I care is that this movie looks awesome and I hope I can see it opening day.

Uh, no? The eyebrows look a little strange, that's about it ...

Joe said in an interview that he watched a lot of older Bruce Willis movies in an attempt to sort of be more like Willis. Again, not EXACTLY like a young Bruce Willis, but taking elements of him and using those elements in his performance.

I'm so keen for this film.

No. So don't cast Willis. Or, an even simpler idea would be to use one actor for both roles. Just use makeup to age them. Or not, is there any reason why one version of these characters has to be so much older than the other?

Sure. For movies involving prosthetics so they can look like monsters and aliens. The problem is it just doesn't look natural. At all.

So we are dumping cool, awesome looking movies on the basis that an actor doesn't look enough like an another actor? Of course, two minutes isn't really enough to ask people to suspend their disbelief, let's see if they can do that in 90 to 120 minutes. From what I've heard, after a while you do get used to it, especially since the replication of Bruce Willis in JGL goes beyond looks but also in terms of mannerisms. I really want to see how JGL pulls that off, along with how the story and everything else pans out. I just hope that this detail is not the Dr. Manhattan penis of 2012.

I gotta say, after seeing the trailer for the 8697532th time, I gotta ask here:

Why the fuck would anyone kill their future self ? Specially WHY would someone be so hell-bent on doing so ?

Don't get me wrong, it's what intrigues me the most.

I'm pretty sure that's the whole conflict of the movie, feli.

Then again, I think that the more intriguing question is the matter of why JGL's employers would want his future self dead to begin with.

I don't think this counts as a spoiler, but from an advance screening review I've read:
Eventually a Looper closes his loop; when the future cops come too close to the criminals, they tie up all loose ends, and that includes the Looper of 30 years later. The Looper offs his own future self and is richly rewarded, getting to live out his remaining days in luxury.
