I deliberately skipped the first one. The trailer gave me the impression it was towelhead-bashing racist claptrap of the first order (Old man says 'dont go to towelhead-land, daughter, they will rape you'... she goes anyway, old guy was right, goes and kills towelheads. Gimme a fiucking break) and I gave it a wide, wide berth.
How the fuck did you get that impression?
From having the trailer beat me around the head with right-wing reactionary shittiness in a cinema.
considering the first one the girl is taken from Paris, you are way off mark.
The fear-mongering is on mark, sorry.
'Don't go overseas', says Dad, 'you will be abducted by bad non-Americans! the world outside post 9-11 USA is full of scary jabbering evil types!'
Of course, old codger CIA-dad is right, and has to go Rambo-ing his way unstoppably through the hordes in his righteous bad-ass way.
My tongue is in my cheek a bit, but I have been living in third-world muslim countries on and off for a while. Beat-em-up cinema where the west is right and the world outside is to be feared don't earn the endorsement of my price of admission.
Ok fear-mongering is fair, but any connection to Muslims really is way off mark, for a start the daughter is kidnapped in Paris by the Albanian Mafia for sex-trafficking.
yes there are quite a lot of Muslims in Albania, but Albania is actually a secular country, and sex-trafficking is the last thing Albanian Muslims would be involved in, besides the fact that the Albanian Mafia is probably the most powerful criminal organisation in France, are probably the largest sex-trafficking organisation in Europe it's not surprising that they were chosen as the antagonists.
Also the movie was Written by Luc Besson, and directed by Pierre Morel not some flag waving Americans.
I'm not saying you are wrong about the general direction modern action movies have gone since 9/11, because you are right, but I am saying don't judge a movie on it's trailer alone, and this is one of the exceptions, not one of the rule followers.
