Superman shouldn't be Dark though, the point of superman is that there is always hope. Look at his origin, the world was gripped with one of the worst economic times in modern history and people needed a character that always had hope, now we are in times of great economic turmoil again... maybe we need a hero that doesn't brood, that isn't agnsty... the kind of hero that can make us believe a man can fly.

Agreed. I don't want to see a dark and gritty Superman in the vein of Nolan's Batman. That being said, though, he does need a bit of pathos to make him compelling.

Of course, that pretty much comes with every member of his race dying. So as long as they incorporate some of that angst while making sure the movie as a whole isn't dark and bad-ass, we're good. Maybe they can sync his survivor syndrome with a villain as well. (come ooooooon, Brainiac *crosses fingers*)

I think it's more of a matter of people perceiving Superman as someone that lives in another reality, hence why Batman is usually more well received, the latter acknowledges the world is a shitty place, the former (to the untrained reader) doesn't.

The current generation is a little more cynic for a reason, I think what Superman needs is to somehow tap onto that to be relevant again.

why do people keep saying dark?

i want a serious dramatic movie

watchmen is dark

i want superman to be in the vein of star trek reboot in tone

dark is too subjective of a word to throw out

I just ask that they ditch the style of Returns. I don´t want dark, I don´t want realistic, I want serious.

I said what I didn´t want, I didn´t say that dark and realistic couldn´t be serious.

I just think that realistic and dark works better with characters like the Punisher, while serious works with a wider range of characters, among wich is Supes...

Kay, I will. I've been wanting to read some of that anyway.

"Public Enemies" I think it's the name, art by Ed McGuiness.

Did...did it make reference to Composite Superman?

I think it did, you'd have to read it for yourself.

Kay, I read it, and yeah, that's a pretty huge reference.

3D is still going strong despite my bitching to my friends about it, and the latest project to take the path well-traveled and post-convert to 3D is going to be Zack Snyder's MAN OF STEEL. Though in this case it will not just be any 3D but IMAX 3D specifically, which is probably the smart choice for a movie as vast in scope as MAN OF STEEL undoubtably is.

As to why it wasn't shot in 3D to begin with, that I cannot tell you. Perhaps Snyder initially held out due to producer Christopher Nolan's personal stance on 3D (he's not a fan) but has since changed his mind and/or been strong-armed by the studio. Perhaps, now that the release date is still just a bit less than a year away, Warner Bros and Snyder collectively decided "why the hell not." Anyway and either way, it is now happening.

MAN OF STEEL will be out in cinemas on June 14th, 2013. Our first real glimpse of the movie's progress should come this Saturday at Comic-Con and, I think it's easy to imagine, a week after that as a trailer in front THE DARK KNIGHT RISES.

Quote:
The new plot synopsis: In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Henry Cavill) is a young twenty-something journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond his imagination. Transported years ago to Earth from Krypton, a highly advanced, distant planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question 'Why am I here?' Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Diane Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Kevin Costner), Clark discovers having extraordinary abilities means making difficult decisions. When the world is in dire need of stability, an even greater threat emerges. Clark must become a Man of Steel, to protect the people he loves and shine as the world's beacon of hope - Superman.

That is probably the worst synopsis I've ever read in my life

But if that's the plot of the movie, what else is there to say?

I don't know, maybe I've been accustomed to always having something to chew on after reading the synopsis, I could say perhaps they could mention who the villain is, but that wasn't a surprise like............months ago.
